Canada has declared that it will prolong the special standards set aside for Iranians in Canada as temporary residents.
The standards were declared in February 2023 as a way of helping Iranians in Canada during unrest in Iran and were set to expire a week before. They will currently expire on 28 February 2025. Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) declares that they have been extended because while the protests in Iran have reduced, the conditions remain unstable.
At the time of the former release, the Canadian administration stated that the special criteria:
- It makes it simpler for people in Canada on a temporary work permit, study, or visitor permit to apply for an extension from inside Canada.
- Procedure applications from Iranians residing in Canada on priority grounds.
- Launch a new open work permit route for Iranians already residing in Canada.
- Waive specific processing payments for Iranians who desire to prolong their visit to Canada.
- Waive permanent resident and passport travel document payments for Canadian nationals and Canadian permanent residents presently in Iran who desire to exit.
Among the processing charges waived, Iranian candidates in Canada will not be needed to make payment of the processing fee for a temporary resident permit, the request processing charge for an extension of approval to stay in Canada as a temporary resident, or the charges for acquiring biometrics.
