New Measures to Verify International Student’s Letters of Acceptance by IRCC

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has started to execute the first of its standards to boost and retain the virtue of the foreign student program in Canada. Notably, the Department for Immigration has founded an online portal for Designated Learning institutions, the only learning institution in Canada assigned to admit international students to confirm letters of acceptance that international students present to accompany their student visa application.

Under this new structure, Designated Learning Institutions will now be required to confirm the Letter of Acceptance student present via an online portal, which only their delegates to Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada can access. Institutions will now have up to 10 days to confirm letters of acceptance. If a Designated Learning Institution neglects to authenticate the letter of acceptance within this period, or if they establish that the letter is forged, the student visa application will be withdrawn and sent back to the candidate with any payments they made for the processing expenses.

Remember that Designated Learning Institutions will no longer have access to confirmation letters of acceptance once the deadline has passed. These new modifications come in as a result of several previous cases of abuse of Canada’s Foreign student systems, which includes a high-profile case in 2023 that had to do with the close deportation of 700 international students who were frauded into arrival in Canada according to the fake letter of acceptance, that fake immigration consultant forged.

Additional details on the new steps needed by Designated Learning Institutions to confirm the letter of acceptance can be discovered on the authority’s webpage.

The Trusted Institutions Structure

In 2024, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) also suggested a new structure for Designated Learning institutions, the Trusted Institutions Framework. An aspect of this approach is to present a two-tiered structure to allocate study permits, such as the one above.

Furthermore, the trusted institution recognized within this structure would benefit from this status in different ways, including quicker processing of study permits.

Although very little is currently understood concerning how this structure will operate, it is anticipated to be executed in the fall of 2024. Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has steadily repeated this year; hence, safeguarding the virtue of the foreign student program remains a significant concern. The unit has declared that it may even contemplate restricting the number of student visas to ensure that designated learning institutions can offer international students accurate assistance for their educational experience.

Additional Modifications in 2024

2024 is set to be significant for Canada’s foreign student program, with several crucial modifications occurring throughout the year. Notably, in 2024, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada will:

  • Elevate the cost of living conditions for students with the addition of $10,000
  • Recontemplate the 20-hour work restriction for foreign students
  • Stop the conducive standards permitting international students to calculate time spent overseas towards their PGWP
  • Present a new modifications to the Post-Graduation Work Permit program

Furthermore, the division has plans to link foreign student registration and post-graduate work Permit allocation more directly with labor market and demographic requirements. In total, 2024 is anticipated to acquire many alterations as Canada contends with lodging close to one million international students in the coming year.
