What is the TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples, and How Much is it Worth?

The TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples program was launched in November 2022 by TD Bank Group (TD) and AFOA Canada, a not-for-profit organization led by Indigenous Peoples that promotes excellence in Indigenous finance and management.

This scholarship aims to remove barriers to education for students from Indigenous communities and foster Indigenous leadership and capability. The scholarship is open to students from any field of study who want to pursue a post-secondary education at an approved institution in Canada.

There are 25 scholarships available to be awarded annually, each worth up to $60,000 over four years. The scholarship covers:

  • $10,000 towards tuition each year (if tuition is less than $10,000, the balance can be applied towards living expenses).
  • $5,000 towards living expenses each year.
  • Employment opportunities at TD, including summer jobs between years of study and full-time positions upon graduation.

Who is Eligible to Apply, and What are the Requirements?

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a member/citizen of a First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community.
  • Be a permanent resident of Canada.
  • Have applied for or be enrolled in a full-time minimum two-year program with an approved post-secondary institution in Canada for the next year of study.
  • Employees of TD and its subsidiaries and their children are not eligible for this scholarship.

To apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • Complete an online application form or download a PDF version and submit it by mail or fax.
  • Provide proof of your Indigenous identity (such as a status card, Métis card, or Inuit beneficiary card).
  • Provide proof of your Canadian citizenship or permanent residency (such as a birth certificate, passport, or permanent resident card).
  • Provide proof of your acceptance or enrollment in a post-secondary program (such as a letter of acceptance or confirmation of enrollment).

  • You must maintain full-time enrollment in an approved post-secondary program for the duration of your scholarship.
  • You must maintain satisfactory academic performance (minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale) in each year of study.
  • You must submit an annual progress report to AFOA Canada by August 31 of each year.
  • You must participate in the summer and full-time employment opportunities TD Bank offers.
